The Orchestra of the Charles University in Prague under the eminent conductor Haig Utidjian host the world premiere of Milan Iglo’s Piano Concerto in D at the Museum of Musical Instruments in Prague. The Piano Concerto is an early work dating from 1959 and is a bright and optimistic work by a composer often associated with folk music – another major work for piano is his more recent collection of 24 Preludes and Fugues, each based on a different Czech folk tune. Stylistically often reminiscent of Martinů and Shostakovich, the three movements of the Concerto contain passages of sparkling virtuosity in the solo part as well as more intimate dialogues between solo and orchestra. The programme will also feature further works by Iglo and works by Brahms and Smetana.
